The words forever inked on his torso say it all.

Julien Chambon is fashion’s “bad boy.” Those who meet the charismatic, hyper-kinetic, tattoo-covered designer today might not guess that he grew up among France’s fashion royalty.

But that is just one of many paradoxes, and a piece of the puzzle that is Julien Chambon. Chambon’s design sensibilities were heightened at an early age in his native St.Tropez.
There, his mother, Martine Chambon, built a retail empire that now comprises eight Patch stores both in St.Tropez and the ski resort of Courchevel.
Martine’s championed the work of Gaultier, Balenciaga, Balmain, Chloe, Alexander Wang,Phi,Rodarte,Lanvin,Yves Saint-Laurent… and frequently hosted designers at the family’s home on thefrench riviera.
Later, Julien would earn his design stripes working as creative director for the likes of, A & G, ed hardy black line, Raw 7, rock n fuck, rock and luke, Cappuccino, Doodski and several luxury European fashion labels that continuously request his talents as consultant and designer.
“Being responsible for translating the visions of these visionaries and helping to take them from the mere concept to reality was an important part of my formation as a designer,” says Chambon. His unusual talent of transforming ideas into creations make him one of fashion’s most versatile designers in the industry.
But it was one of the darker episodes of his life – a stint in prison – to which he attributes the surge of creativity that now drives his designs. “Being there was like death and rebirth. It taught me to live in the present, to be ‘rock and roll,’ and to live each day as if it were the last,” says Chambon.
“That is the idea I like to keep present when I am creating.” Chambon’s new JULIEN CHAMBON line culls what he calls the best of his experiences and inspirations, combining tattoo art,rock n roll prints with unique fabric treatments and hand sewn beading & embellishments. But the designer is unabashedly candid when he says his mandate is to sell as much as to excel. “This line is created for what i see around me and what inspires me, a woman with rock and roll attitude with a touch of chic!” says Chambon. Chambon must be right on the money.
JULIEN CHAMBON will debut this fall in Intermix, Fred Segal,Kitson, Nordstroms and many more… quite a coup from one who has always considered himself a rebel and an outsider.
Or just another paradox from a designer whose “in your face” attitude is delightfully at odds with his clear desire and ability to be loved.
